Question:

How can I figure out what material my suits are made out of?

I have two suits. Both blue. I didn't buy either of them (don't ask). Basically, I'm trying to figure out what they're made out of (cotton? polyester? wool?) and I don't really know how to tell. I've checked them both and neither has a tag with the material on it, which is very weird...is there any way to tell? One of them definitely feels more "clothy" than the other one.

  1. I think the best way to tell would be to take your suit in to a fabric store or a dry cleaners.  Both of those places should be able to tell you what fabric your suits are made from.

Also, you may want to double check all the seams of your suit for a small tag that lists the fabric and cleaning instructions.  Many times the makers will not put this information on the inner neck of the suit but along the inner seam.  Good luck :)

  2. Grab something out of your closet that is one of each to compare. It will help-Cotton is soft and smoothe, polyester is usually smoothe sometimes silky (usually light) and wool will shrink. It's usually heavy and blak, white mix-like charcoal coal. Can be colored though- feel the material-heavy. Take it to the cleaners and they can usually tell u. Polyester can be dressy too.

  3. Polyester usually feels thick and has a stretchy like texture this is how you can decipher polyester

Wool is usually very heavy and thick and wool usually is like a tweed pattern with dark colors

The suit you mention sounds more like a polyester/cotton blend suit Good Luck !
