How can I fill in low levels in my lawn without tearing out the grass?

I need to level out the height differences in my back yard.

  1. we used to cover the low spots with sand and water well, the grass will grow up through and the yard will be level


  2. This is best when you do it in small increments over long periods of time.

    Add 1/2" to 1" of soil, soil/sand mix or straight sand over the low spots. Allow the grass to completely recover and grow back.At least 4 mowings. Then repeat. Do this no more than 4 times during the growing season.

    It is best to aerate your lawn before placing your first application.

    To much at one time may casue root fungal problems.
