I need to fill a huge hole, left from where a little homemade pond was. What can you suggest? Bags of soil are kind of expensive so I was wondering if there was anything else I could use? Maybe mulch or something?

  1. It might cost less to buy some soil in bulk instead of in bags.  Research your area to find where it is sold there and find out the cost.  I think soil is the best solution and will be the most satisfying to you in the long run.

  2. well i wood first buy a few bags of play sand nd bags of dirt, nd a bag of grass seed.  then i wood level out the hole as much as possible, then put about half of 1 bag of sand, pack the sand, then get the sand moist, level it out, and then do the same with the rest of the sand.. then u go to the dirt.. nd do the same with the dirt as u did with the sand.. then u sprinkle out the seed...

                               hope that helps..

tell me if that works out...

  3. Join your local freecycle group and ask for soil, it is always being offered .

  4. call the city you live in, sometimes they have excess material

  5. call some of your local construction companys. they always need places to dump dirt.

  6. I suggest calling a local nursery/landscape company.  Tell them how long, wide and deep the hole is.  Ask for 'clean fill' and for the top six inches to be topsoil.  They can deliver it to your house and fill the pond for you or they can dump it in the driveway and you do the work.

  7. there are lots of construction companies that give out free dirt. if there is a new building being built, ask if u can take some dirt out of the piles. they will probably be happy for u to take it.

  8. Try putting empty flowering pots upside down to fill most of the area and then use soil to fill in.  You will save so much money, and go to a local nursery to get the plastic containers...they usually will give them away.
