  1. steal his trash.  look for company names, on the mail, etc.  If it is an "LLC", you can get a copy of the papers for a low cost from the state.  Or, go to city hall and get a info on the business from the licensing department.  Or , if he did not pay for a business license, turn him in !

  2. There are several ways to tell if a person owns a company, However, the fact that he owns it doesn't mean you will get child support.   He probably owns a vehicle/or house too and it has no bearing on the child support.   Income is what determines the child support.   He may own a business and works every day, but how much does he get paid?   I have been self employed for many years and for many years I couldn't take a pay check from the business or it would bankrupt it.

I would leave it up to the courts to determine what his pay is.  If they subpoena the information, he has to provide it.   There really isn't much you can do.  The courts will decide his ability to pay.

As for verifying his employment, if he is working under a social security number, you can verify by checking his number.   If he works for cash,  I would hire a Private investigator or someone other than yourself to video tape him at work.  then present to the judge.
