How can I find a good swimming coach?

I'm a 19 y/o college student in Boston getting back into swimming. I used to swim on a team, but I haven't been on a team in years. I would like to compete competitively one day (maybe even compete nationally), so just a YMCA instructor won't work.

The ymca has a master's program for adults complete with a coach and workouts  If you are that fast that you can compete nationally your boston college would be glad to have you.  IF you want to get in shape first, you can train with some of the team.

Go to http://www.usms.org

That is the website for USA Masters swimming and will list master's teams in your area.  Then its up to you.  Try out the different programs and find one that fits you.  You can also contact local USS club teams (www.usaswimming.org) and see if they'll allow you to join.
