How can I find an inventor, who specializes in green products, to see if he or she'd be interested in my ideas? (Without giving up credit for my idea, in hope of making some money off of it?)

I also, unfortunately, have no money to donate to the project to begin with :(

  1. make sure you write your idea down and mail it to yourself as proof that it is your idea and then get a copyright on it and then try to find someone....

  2. Craigslist.  Be prepared for weirdos, though.

  3. If you have the ideas, then technically you're the inventor :)

Seriously though, you can take you idea to a local university. Usually engineering departments can help pair you with the right student or staff member to help create rendering and prototype of the product. I would first get a template of a non-disclosure agreement, add your info, and have the engineer sign it before giving away details. You should also take a look at your public library's patent records to see if your product already exists somewhere. Because you don't have the money to contribute, you should write a great business plan, know your industry inside and out, and approach a venture capitalist or angel investor with an investment pitch. You could also enter business plan compititions. Money awarded from here would allow you to pay an engineer for design of the product and pay a manufacturer for a prototype. Or, you could seek and engineer with money, who willing to finance the project  in exchange for a percentage of ownership of the products sales.

  4. Write down your idea in a note book with the date. Keep track of the idea as you learn more in that note book. You could have some one sign it, or get it notarized. Then work to set up license agreements. If you are under 18 you my need your parents help. This is not legal advice, but many people are working on ideas to help earth. Send me an email to set up a confidential agreement, if you would like, to CoolingEarth.org.
