Here in the US we have a service on the internet called apartmentfinder.com it allows you to search for apartments in your area that meet your criteria - such as having pets.   Perhaps there is a similar service in the UK?

Ask the local letting agents if any of the landlords will allow animals. We have just let a ground floor flat with a garden to a couple with a dog. We were just about to renew the carpets - but have put that off till they move on - but they had good references so were happy to let them have it. We were not in the London area, but in a City.
