Question:

How can I find information about an old bicycle?

Someone gave me a bicycle from the 1950's. My husband suggested I try to find out a little more about it before I start riding it around. I don't see any name brand in any obvious places, so is there any way I can determine who manufactured it and when?

I think it may need a new back tire so I'm concerned about whether I'll be able to get one for a bike that old, as well.

Thanks!

  1. If you can, post a picture on here.  Someone might recognise it.

  2. Without any sort of manufacturers tag it's going to be hard to find out more - your best bet would be to take it to the local bike shop and see what they know.

As far as getting a new tire, tires (for the most part) haven't changed too much in size so that shouldn't be difficult.

  3. A picture of the bike- side view on the drivetrain side (where the chain is) would be immensely helpful.

Regarding a new tire, there should be no problem... most sizes made since the early 1930s are still readily available at a bike shop.
