I come from a Gruszka family of Polish Jews, who lived in Pultusk, Poland. They were drowned by the n***s in an nearby river... My great great grandfather's name was Y'shaya Gruszka, and my GG Grandmothers was Liba Ruchel Gruszka. Thus far, I can't find any information or records anywhere online...

Does anyone know a good place or way to check?

  1. For starters, check at http://www.jewishgen.org The Family Finder there presently has 10 people researching this specific surname.  Most are researching people who have lived in Poland w/ one incuding Argentina.  You can email each of them and who knows maybe find a match?

If you are not a member, you will need to subscribe, but it is free.  Once you have a researcher number and password, you can search the entire site.

You should check the JRI-Poland Project which has millions of birth, marriage, death records online.  It is hosted on JewishGen.

Join one of the Discussion Groups there.  The best one for your search would be the JewishGen Discussion Group.

The town yizkor book has been digitized and is online via the NY Public Library at: http://yizkor.nypl.org/index.php?id=2548

It is over 700 images in length and most likely in Hebrew and Yiddish.  Some of the references at Yad Vashem come from this book.

You can locate the English Translation of the Table of Contents at: http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/pultusk/...

Only a few  other parts of this particular book are now translated -

"List of Slain" at: http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/pultusk/... (about 25 pages and includes a Necrology)

    "Yizkor" at: http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/pultusk/...

The FTJP is located on the JewishGen site (Family Tree of the Jewish People) and you might locate a branch of your own tree.

This is only the tip of the iceberg at that site and it is always being updated.

Check at the Yad Vashem site at: http://www.yadvashem.org - search the Shoah Pages of Testimony. There are 15 people listed from the district of Pultusk w/ this surname.  Some seem to be repeated submissions.  Maybe you or someone in your family will recognize the first names.  Sadly, when searching the surname w/o a location there are over 700 hits.

  2. You can go to www.jewishgen.org .  You have a good advantage in that you know where they came from including the city.  There is so much to this site.

Also, you could try Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.
