My surname is Maher(Irish Form = O' Macher (Yep, I know it sounds Egyptian, but I can assure you it is Irish), and I want to find the information about the clan (I am descended from it).

I've looked everywhere, and I just want to find a webpage or something about my ancestors.

Can you help?

  4. How does that sound Egyptian. There are alot of Mahers in Ireland. It would be very hard to track your ancestors as the name is very common.

This surname definition is from maherclan.com:

The name Maher comes from the Irish Ui Meachair, or in English, O Meagher. The "O" was dropped, and some families further anglicised the name to Maher around the 18th century.

Maher is also the name of a group of families in India (comprised of 14 major surnames), unrelated to the Irish clan, with a history of being warriors, who have their own unique wedding ceremonies and such.
