How can I find out about my ancestors for free?

I am a teen and am interested in Genealogy and I wanted to know how I can research them for free like are there any free genealogy websites that you know of where I can find things about my family and how else can I do it for free?

Krista, have you heard of a catch 22?  

There are THOUSANDS of free sites to use. Sites about history in Kansas might be great, if your family is from Kansas. You have to learn a bit about your family, to find which sites apply.

The contradiction is.. most hobbies cost SOMETHING. If the only place for finding grandpa's parents names is on her death certificate.. then that is a record you need. Maybe you luck out, she was born in 1923, and one of us can find her in census records for you. Or, the library is down the block, and they may have ancestry.com for free use there.

The NUMBER ONE THING that I offer persons is this...

never mind about finding the websites. FIRST, understand the process of what you need, and how it goes together. You have to know the right question first.  The question may be "where are obituaries for Miami, Florida for 1953?"

Here is Cyndi's beginner section.. but if you look at the site, you will find a kazillion topics and sources. I hate when people want "one best" site.. you find more, if you have MANY MANY sites..but they are relevant to you.  What is on one site, won't be on another, but you won't realize this, until you look around.
