  1. go to mapquest.com to find the distance and divide it by your average mpg and multiply by the gas price per gallon.

  2. Your car's handbook won't say MPG.  They don't put it in the handbook because the "official" MPG numbers are determined too late to print it in the book.   Go here

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/f*g/findacar....

for the official numbers, which are kinda optimistic but better than they used to be.

Remember in Oregon you are not allowed to pump your own gas.  Try to fill up right before you cross the state line and try to get across without filling up, because  it's a pain waiting for the attendant.

  3. figure roughly how many miles you'll be traveling, figure you car's mpg's and then factor in the average for gas on west coast

  4. How did you graduate middle school?

  5. As an example, it's about 1,200 miles from Seattle to LA.  If your car gets 25 miles per gallon, it would take you 48 gallons to make the trip.  (1200 divided by 25 = 48).  Multiply 48 gallons by the cost per gallon.  Say 48 x $4.00 (it's almost there!) which would equal $192.00.

You can run a google map with exact mileage from your house to your destination.  Then use the correct mileage figure for your car, put in the correct gas price, and calculate almost exactly what it will cost you.

  6. Just make a guess! $4.00 per gallon...and then check your cars hand book it should tell you your fuel economy on both highway and city miles. That should give you the best estimate, once you incorporate the mileage to La from Seattle. Always round your estimate up!

  7. Find out how many miles you can go on a tank of gas...

say you go 50 miles on one tank of gas...

say your trip is 200 miles...thats 4 tanks of gas now...now how much does it cost you to fill up your car say its $40. So $40x4 tanks of gas...thats $160!

  8. Its about 1000 miles.

So figure if you get 25mpg on the highway-- Thats 40 gallons of gas each way. At about 4.20/gallon thats about 170 each way. So Close to 350 roundtrip. Then add wear and tear, food, ect.. and MUCH cheaper to fly or take a train.

  9. Well first off hopefully you know how many miles to the gallon your vehicle gets on the freeway. Then you can map quest the  the trip and find out how many miles you will be driving.

Take the milage and devide it by the miles per gallon your car gets and you should have the answer of how many gallons of gas it will take. Always add at least 10 percent to your final tally, to add for any unforseen incedenses that might arrise. Now take that total and times it by the cost of a gallon of gas.
