How can I find out how safe my Citroen ZX is?

It is 1994, 1.4i, but the Euro NCAP website doesn't seem to have results for cars this old.

I mean, i know cars of this age are pretty 'tin pot' compared to modern cars, I just wondered how safe this car is for my family? Can anyone help?

  3. It is not a case of cars of that age being Tin Pot. Many years ago it was considered that the thicker the metal and the heavier the car, the safer it was. This was proved incorrect as when 2 cars collided it was like hitting a brick wall and great stresses' were put on the passengers bodies.

Modern cars use a very rigid safety cage which is designed to remain intact with the doors remaining closed. The back and front have crumple zones which deform progressively absorbing impact as they go. A car can have a number of different strengths and thicknesses of metal in its body. Also of course, there are now more air bags.

Because a car does not have the latest design does not mean it is not safe, it just means that there are safer ones being made now.   The NCAP rates include safety for pedestrians in their marking.

Remember, when your car was first made it was probably considered cutting edge technology in terms of performance and safety.  The car is no less safe for your family now than it was in 94 basically.  The most unsafe component in your motoring will be the driver!

I think that you have to be realistic, if you are driving a 94 ZX that is worth maybe £400 then presumably you could not afford the latest in automotive safety.

  4. nothing is totally safe...its mostly down to you,the driver.

  5. get an MOT
