Question:

How can I find out if a car has stability control?

I'm looking into buying a 99' Mercedes CLK 320. I know in that year, stability control was optional. Unfortunately, the dealer doesn't know whether or not it has it. And It's not like I can go and check it out, because The dealer is in California, and I'm in NY. Is there anyway I could figure it out with the VIN or stock number? The dealer said he would try to find out for me, but you know as well as I do, that used car dealers can't be trusted for pretty much anything. Thanks

  1. Find out the option code & usually somewhere on the car is a placard or sticker that lists all options.

  2. Just call the dealer and give them the VIN number and they will tell you and I don’t know why they would not know.

They use the VIN each and everyday it is the birth certificate for the vehicles options.

You can try two other things...1. Call the parts department and ask or 2. Post your VIn and I will look it up for you.

    Update....

Sorry for the delay, I checked into it and the dealer said that it does not have that feature,  they said that the manufacturers code for stability control is (ESP) and that VIN did not show it.

  3. go to edmunds.com

    Good luck!

  4. LOL, I know the answer for your question, but seeing as how I'm a used car dealer, you wouldn't trust the answer anyway, so good luck with that.
