How can I find out if my father's killer was ever convicted?

My dad died when I was very young so I just learned that he was murdered in what was apparently a car jacking. The family doesn't really talk about it and I don't want to push my mom about it...this happened in '88, so i'm not even sure where to start. I did find the name of the man who was found driving his truck, but I don't know how to use that information

I've checked the local newpaper archives for '88, which is where I got the man's name from, but that was the only article I could find...no follow up.

I'd appreciate any help that anyone can offer...thanks

  1. Yes, call the DA, or AG's office, see if they can help, if you know the location it happend talk with that Police Department, the file might be public record. good luck.

  2. The county in which the crime occurred and where the charges were filed and the person arrested will have a record. You can request any records about that person.

Those records will show his arrest, the charges, and the disposition of that case.

  3. In New York it is easy.  Just go to the department of corrections homepage and go to inmate look- up.  Type in the man's name and see what comes up.  I don't know about in other states but the information you are looking for is public.  Start with the court and court records for the county that the crime was committed in. Or try the district attoney's office.  Good luck.

  4. Maybe a call to the district attorney's office?
