my ex husband has a habit of telling stories and he has told this to my two kids.

When he retired at eight-teen and a half years he had no mention of this in his shadow box, so how can I find out if its true or not . I know this is something you shouldn't lie about. See he denies being attached to the Seabees which

I know he was. And brags about being a Navy Seal which I have no proof of.

how do I find out, please help.

thank you

  1. Unfortunately, according  to military regulations and the Federal Privacy Act of 1974 (and its later amendments), you do not have a right to know anything contained in his service record.  The only data you can see is his pay status in order to obtain alimony payments.  The rest is all private without a court order and/or his signature releasing the information specifically to you.

  2. No "Shawn P. Dunn" was ever a United States Navy SEAL.

  3. It is possible for you to obtain the information contained in his military records by filling out a Standard Form 180 (SF-180), Request Pertaining to Military Records.

Just make sure that you fill it out as completely as possible.  In Section II, leave item 3 (Purpose) blank.  In Section III, for item 1, check the Other box and write in Spouse.

Make sure that you sign the form and mail to the correct address.
