The first time i went boogie boarding, the waves were really soft and it was easy to boogie board. The second time i went to newport beach, the waves were really big and the waves broke 15 feet from the shore, so it was hard to boogie board.

I live in so. cal.

  1. Buy a tide book.

  2. Don't you want big ones.

    15 footers sound awesome.

If that's too big for you, just wait a couple hours and they usually die down

  3. u can't u just sit on the beach and wait for high tide.

and when the waves brake u got to let the leftovers come to u.

  4. Find a tide table online, such as the one listed as my source.

  5. The oceans unpredictable, somedays when you surf you think the oceans your friend and then the next day it is trying to kill you. Its different all the time, and dont want to correct anyone but usually if the surf is big it will not be coming down anytime soon that day. Sometimes when the tide comes in or out it can make the surf a bit smaller, but not necessarily. It can also sometimes have the opposite effect and make it a lot bigger.

If your regular beach looks a bit crazy one day, keep driving because you might find a beach that doesnt have as big surf and you will feel more comfortable getting out there. If you dont know all that much about a place, ask people that are familiar with the beach and they will tell you whats going on there.

  6. If you live in SoCal, Huntington Beach area--this might help.

Some of the surf shops (on the web) have links to daily wave and surf reports.
