I was paid for 3 weeks, 1400.63, as per 16/hour for 117 hours.

I got 1400.63 after tax is that correct?

  1. Have you looked at your pay stub. Are taxes the only thing being taken out? I dont live in Canada so I don't know what all gets taken out of pay checks... But do you have benefits through your company like healthcare or dental or life insurance? Those may also be automatically deducted. Do you pay for something like social security or a whatever Canada's version of it might be? Your pay stub will show what all is being deducted from your pay. You should also visit your Human Resources administrator  if too much is being taken out and so forth- he/she can answer your questions best and maybe give you advice on how to lower your deductions.

  2. Can't tell without knowing where you live and how many exemptions you claimed on your W4.

  3. i know canadians have really high taxes, but i dont know if thats correct

  4. Wow, more Americans who can't tell the difference between Canada and US than usual.

Use the CRA deduction calculator (see the link).  Because 3 weeks is not a normal pay period, you'll need to run the numbers yourself using an appropriate amount for each week or other period.  Compare those results with your pay stub, which may also show other deductions.

    Overall, it seems about right.

  5. You can use the Payroll Deductions Online Calculator from the CRA to figure out what your deductions (for income tax, CPP and EI) should be.

I tried doing it for you but I had to enter your wages weekly which would work out to $623.33 per week. Based on that it said your net pay should be $496.85 which would be $1490.55 for 3 weeks. The difference could be that your employer calculated it based on the exact number of days worked instead of weeks worked.

If you have any other deductions like union dues or pension contributions that would not be included in the above calculation.
