I want to get a specific local phone number and I don't know what company owns that block of phone numbers. Does anybody know how I would know which company to call or how to go about getting that number?

  1. http://telcodata.us/

  2. http://www.localcallingguide.com/lca_rcd...

  3. BBB.com might be able to help

  4. Google/Yahoo search it.. if the company somehow post some company info then it should be part of the hit.

  5. Use a NANPA  (North America Numbering Plan Administration) "Utilized Codes Report".

From the link below, select the STATE, and Area Code you want your number.  Then, run the report.

It will show you all telephone Exchanges operating in that area code, and the "Company Name" operating each telephone exchange.

    -------

For Canada, you can use the CNA (Canadian Numbering Admisistrator) to locate the companies operating Local Exchanges.

    P.S.

Telephone companies and exchanges don't actually "own" telephone numbers - the number blocks are "assigned" by NANPA.

When we subscribe to phone services and get a phone number (also know as a DID in VoIP world), we do not own that number, we are just "renting" or "leasing" it.
