How can I find out what jail someone is in in California..?

I'm trying to find out what jail a friend is staying in so I can write to them, does anyone know how I can find out.?

what county are you in? the website for san diego is www.sdsheriff.net/wij/wij then type in the last name, it will give you a list of everyone in custody. if this does not work with the specific county, call the jail for the area and ask them for the website. when you find him/her alot of the jails accept emails to the inmates.

thats hard if you have no idea where your friend was arrested! if you can figure out the county search the county jail thats what i did with a friend of mine, searching all of california will suck and take forever but if you know his/her accurate info it could be a little less sucky and a little less time!
