How can I find out what provider my home telephone number is with?

I have just rented my house and I am trying to find out what provider my phone is with so I can get it reconnected

Any ideas???

    if its in the US.....then go to this website....it will tell you who/what providers are in your area!!

  3. If it's not connected then no company "provides" so you can go to whoever you want.

  4. Check the front pages of "White Pages" of any local telephone book.  

    If you don't have one, go to any phone booth that has phone books.  The local ILEC (Incumbent Local Exchange Carrier), who is also the dominant phone carrier for your town/city, is the one who publishes the local telephone book and White Pages.  Their contact information will be plastered all over the front of the phone book.

    You can either subscribe with the ILEC, or shop around for CLEC's (Competitive Local Exchange Carriers).  It is now law that ILEC's have to open the local exchange phone lines to competitors (the CLECs), in order to even-out the playing field and eliminate service monopolies....
