At the moment where I my phone line comes from the telegraph pole.

When I arrived home this morning there are working men installing underground phone lines cables in my road.

They are digging up the pavement and it came to mind,I wonder if they are putting optic internet cables in.

I have heard and read that Bt is intalling the optic cables in the future and have started to it in some parts of the UK.

My internet isnt to bad for which is about 5MB or 6MB.

It shud be 16MB but I can only get up to 5MB or 6MB.

  1. BT Openreach have developed a fibre optic wire that can be erected between the pole outside your house to the socket in your house.

Fibre is on the way for the local loop but it won't happen overnight.

  2. they wont be digging the road up for fiber optic broadband , it will be too expensive and will cause too much commotion and disconnections etc. They are installing them in the sewer systems across the country, I dont know when they are starting or where yet there may be more info on the bt site.

If there was it will cost more proberbly and 5mb isnt bad where i come from the best we can get is 3.

  3. There's a trial starting at Ebbsfleet, Kent. That's the only place where the new fibre optic is going into homes (the old opticals at Milton Keynes and Doncaster can't do broadband).

All the 21CN optics that have already gone in are backbones (exchange to exchange).
