My husband's father died a few years ago, due to unfortunate family circumstances my husband does not know whether his father was buried or cremated or where his fathers grave is. How could we find this out? Talking to family members is not an option... Thanks in advance.

  1. You can order a copy of the death certificate using the link below.  I don't know if it'll tell you the place of death though.  Best of luck.

  2. Just start digging. You're sure to find him sooner or later.

  3. Try an obituary next. You have the death ctf so you know the town/city of death and state.  Go to www.usgenweb.org/  and click on the state, county of death.  There are resources there that may be of help.

Also you could do a search on-line. I've had luck in finding recent obits on-line in local newspapers.  Just a name search may get results of other information that may help.

  4. If I am not mistaken, there MIGHT be a "short form" or long form of the death certificate.  You are sure you have the actual certificate, and not date/place from an index??  this info is required stuff.. I don't understand it not being on there.

The next step would be to contact the funeral home/ mortician.

  5. Well, I found out where someone was buried by searching through state cemetery records using a google search. Assuming you know what state he lived in, odds are he was buried there, and there are free databases you can look through as long as you put in his first and last name. The date he died would be on the death certificate; that should help narrow down the search and make it easier.

  6. your local hospital will be able to help!

They keep all the records and can contact different hospital e find out 4 u. it usually cost around €8

  7. Try www.findagrave.com.

  8. I agree with the previous answer.  I'm a contributing member at findagrave.com.  We have over 25 million grave sites listed.  We also have a great deal of members, including myself, who can help locate burial sites and other information.

The fact he passed away just a few years ago, we may be able to find his obituary which will usually list burial/cremation dispositions.
