How can I find out where to see original works of art? E.g. where is Van Gogh's Starry Night displayed?

For example:

Where can I see the original of Van Gogh's Starry Night painting? Or a particular page of Leonardo da Vinci's notebooks?

Often in temporary exhibitions it tells you which archive or museum loaned the piece of work. Isn't this information available for searching online?

    Vinci: UK

  2. In most art books it usually tells you where the original is located. If not with the image then in the appendix.

You should be also be able to look it easily up on the internet. Wikipedia will tell you that "Since 1941 Starry Night has been in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City"
