  1. Try the local cemetery's as long as you have the name and a rough idea of the date of death they should be able to help you

  2. UK Answer:

If the grave is in the UK and the person died only 40 years ago, it may well be located in a municipal cemetery, run by and maintained by the local council. Most local authorities hold records of burials in their cemeteries, so these can be searched and the grave located. If you know where the person was living when he died, try a google search for the location + local council, then have a look on the council's site to find the cemeteries department.

    Good luck with your search!

  3. Since you know the name and area you can research the local newspaper archives for an obituary - the cemetery and/or funeral arrangements are often listed. This is how I found several relatives' grave sites.

  4. You need to find the state and county and then search each cemetery for that name

  5. He might be on findagrave.com or interment.com.

The US Gen Web site for the county may have cemetery listings.

The special collections / local history room of the county library may have cemetery listings.

If all else fails, you'll have to buy a copy of his death certificate from the county records office. It, it turn, will say where the mortal remains were buried. If the cemetery is still in business, their office will be able to look him up on a plot map. If the cemetery is abandoned, you'll have to walk it and hope.
