I am looking for a catholic church to get married in next year...but I don't really go to church that often so i don't know where any are. Is there a website where I can view churches around and near the Ann Arbor, MI area?

  1. You should focus more on the state of your soul (start studying the faith you claim to have, not just "use" it for "pretty" photos, attend mass, go to confession, become an active member, etc).  You should want to enter a marriage validly AND sacramentally.  Learn what that is all about.  Also, if you are sexually active, STOP so that you can see your relationship clearly (and see any and all red flags clearlly so that you WON'T feel obligated to enter a marriage that is doomed for failure b/c of the tricks s*x plays on the mind).  When you do eventually enter pre-Cana, attend as many meetings and retreats as possible with an open mind and a whole lit of self-awareness and honesty.  Also you and your intended should attend Natural Family Planning (NFP) classes, knowing that the Church REQUIRES this form of having and raising a family.  Also, check out the website I've included for further help in your faith journey (there are MANY topics pertaining to marriage, nfp, pre-Cana, and you should also read up on annulments too to see about what makes a valid, sacramental marriage and what doesn't).

  2. The archdiocese website for that area should have links to different churches in their diocese. I'm sorry that I don't have the URL.

  3. You will need to make a decision soon.  You need to be a registered member of the parish, usually for at least 6 months, before you can be married in the parish.

You will also need to be prepared to go the pre-Cana (pre-marital counseling).

  4. I live in Dearborn Heights. There aren't that many "drop dead gorgeous" Catholic churches in the area. They also don't allow services held in gardens or out in the lake. You have to pick from the handful of churches in the area. Gabriel Richard is the most popular parish in A2. All of the Catholic parishes in the area will be listed on either the Diocese of Lansing or Archdiocese of Detroit websites:

    http://www.dioceseoflansing.org/

    http://www.aodonline.org/AODOnline/AODOn...

  5. Congratulations...but you will probably get a better response in a different section.  And if you want a wedding in a Catholic church, you might want to contact the local  Catholic ministry for guidance.  They don't just marry anyone who walks through the door.

  6. Look in the phone book, and start attending Mass each Sunday. Go for a month here, a month there. Then you'll get to know both the building and the priest(s) and that will help.

However, you should know that in some dioceses, you marry where you are registered, you register where you live, and if you aren't registered in a parish, you'll probably have a tough time.
