How can I find the value of my comic books?

I've recently acquired a number of really old comic books that are in good condition. Are there any legitimate sites that I can go to to find their value?

Thanks!

  1. Depending on what type of comic books you have (some characters and books are worth more than others), how old they are and the condition, you might get a decent price.

Either check on-line at any site that deals with collectibles like baseball cards, comic books, etc., or try to find the Comic Book Buyer's Guide. It lists the values and pricing of comic books.

  2. You can buy a copy of the Overstreet Guide to Comic Books - available in bookstores or comic shops.  It costs about $15, I think, so you can decide if that's worth the cost based on how many comics you have.

But the real value of any collection is only determined when you sell it.  The true value of a book is whatever you can get for it.  So you might get a better idea by searching eBay for the same issues, noticing what the asking prices are, and what they eventually sell for.

If you take your comics to a dealer, don't expect guide prices - they'll offer you 50% of guide, or less if they think you don't know what the books are worth.  Then they'll triple the value and try to sell them - that's just the way they try to turn a profit.
