It seems every I go to auto store to get a part for my 302 the part don't match. The spark plugs were from a 71 ford 302, but the points don't match that year. It seems everything is from a different year.

  1. Look, you DON'T  need to go to a marine store. But you DO need the block serial number and the distributor serial number.  Any COMPETANT parts guy can and will cross referance parts for you. I've never had any trouble.

  2. The points don't match because you have a marine distributor in a boat. What you need is the number off of the distributor and get the points from a boat place. Car parts places are a royal PIA when trying to find ignition parts.

  3. somewhere on the engine there is a serial number stamped. find that number and go online and search for it

  4. The block number may or may not help you as most marine motors have older accessories, my 1981 5.0L takes a 79 starter etc. Try finding a spec sheet online or an owners manual.
