How can I fix a short in a pair of headphones ?

First find where it is shorted then remove the short.

Keep in mind that the headphones are speakers and may only measure a few ohms (I have a cheap pair that just measured 25Ω).  

The hard part may be the wires,  It is often very fine coax wiring.  You will need to separate out the center conductor from the shielding conductor.  

It may not be easy and the resulting repair may look like it escaped from a Frankenstein flick.  But it can be done.
