The back tire of my mountain bike is not straight. When I ride, and I look back, the tire is rotating side to side. This is very irritating because I have to make the brake pads further from the rim which means I have to press down further on the brake.

Meanwhile, My front and back wheels make this annoying squeak when I brake, I've tried lubricating it, it doesn't work. Any suggestions/

  1. eh, lubricating your brakes? not a good idea. your rims may not be true, so you should take them to a bike shop so they can be fixed.

  2. Dude... check out this link... http://bicycletutor.com/wheel-truing/

I do all my own maintenance using the site... Spent about $30-$50 on basic tools.

  3. chances are you have ruined your brake pads by lubricating them. possibly your wheels as well. you also need to true your wheel... this is actually a lot easier than it sounds. you will need a spoke wrench.

search online for how to true wheels. try sheldon browns website.

  4. lubing your brakes, are you trying to get yourself killed?! the squeak usually normal, try bringing your bike to a lbs(local bike shop) or a dbs(distant bike shop, if you want...) and get the rim(s) retrued.
