  1. Using a razor blade, cut out all the burnt fibers.  Next, remove a piece of baseboard from one of the walls, and cut fibers from the part of the carpet that's normally under the baseboard.  Now put some glue on the exposed carpet backing (where you cut the burnt fibers) and stick the "new" fibers into it.  Let it dry before walking on it, of course.

  2. Sometimes you can use scissors or a razor.  (If you're lucky, they only singed the tip of the carpet fibers.)  Just snip away slowly, holding the blade near parallel with the carpet.

Even if that doesn't remove it completely, the ugliest part of the scorch mark usually comes up.

You can also try searching for a scrap piece from the inside corner of a closet to transplant.  Cut a patch the size of the mark and replace with an equal sized piece.  It doesn't take much, and a dab of Liquid Nails construction adhesive beneath (and on the surrounding area) should hold it in place.

  3. Replacing the carpet it the best solution, but if your renting, maybe you should consider buying an area rug approximatly the size of the room, and just cover the problem, until you can get your landlord to replace your carpet.

  4. you're best off installing new carpet.

  5. use a sharp blade and try cutting it out, then find another piece and glue it in. can you cut a piece from a corner or closet ?

  6. Carefully cut away the burned portion with a small, sharp pair of scissors.  Works with gum, too
