Question:

How can I fix my PlayStation2 after the lens have been touched?

Our PlayStation2 stopped playing a few discs to start. We tried to play Finding Nemo and Dog's Life and they wouldn't work. We thought it was just a scratch on the disc.

Then my brother went to change the disc and he accidentally touched the lens thing. He didn't think it would do anything but when he went to start the disc, it wouldn't work.

We have tried everything, cleaning the discs, blowing the dust of the lens, everything!

Is there a solution OTHER than buying a new PlayStation2? We can't afford to get a new one at the moment.

  1. Simply touching the lends should not cause the system to no longer read, however if you smudged the lens, its possible it may not read through that.  I personally would suggest taking a Q-Tip and some rubbing alcohol and cleaning off the lens gently, this may help.  However if the laser assembly was poked really hard or something like that, it may have actually knocked the 2nd internal lens of the assembly off its usual lace.  At that point I would suggest possibly bringing it to a nearby non-franchise game shop that might offer a repair service, or possibly even just buying a new laser assembly altogether and replacing it yourself.  There are several guides on the net for ps2 part repair and the laser assembly shouldn't cost all too much by itself, just make sure that the laser you buy is the right one for your model of ps2(match the letter/number code on your current laser to whatever you buy).  Hope that helps.
