Question:

How can I fix my car paint? DIY help!?

I embarked on a repainting job of a fading part of my car. I sanded it accordingly and primed it.

Then yesterday, I put on two coats of paint. After i'd finished, i realised i need to buy more paint. I had to drive home, and it was raining. The paint was dry however and the rain didn't affect it. My question is: Can I still continue painting without having to sand-paper it again given that it's been over fifteen hours now. If i spray it over now, how log do I wait to apply lacquer?

Thanks.

  1. YOUR are going to have to scuff the paint a little. Just a sos, or brillo, or some steel wool and lightly scuff the metal. And then take a clean slightly, DAMP rag, and wipe the scuff area off, remask ..and shoot it again. Remember, mix your lacquer paint 50/50 with lacquer thinner, and you may want to put in some SURE DRY CATILYST, to be sure that all the humidity is out of the paint, air supply, and most of all in the AIR... Let this paint dry, inside for a good 24 hours, then remove the masking paper.

  2. yes all you will have to do know is scotchbrite it ,then go over it with a tacky rag to remove any dust then spray on your colour as you require it ,then leave for about 1 hour then yu can spray 2 or 3 coats of lacquer but please DO NOT use a BRILLO PAD

    good luck h

  3. sounds like a botch job to me.

  4. sounds like you have gone through a lot of trouble ust for a faded panel. you could have just used a cutting compound and buffed it, also is you were going to respray it there would have been no need to sand and prime it you could have just  scotched it (like a scouring pad) then painted it. now there could be a few problems. did you sand back the primer to a smooth finish? if you did, i would advise you to dry the area very thouroughly scotch it clean it, tack it (sticky cloth that picks up dust) then apply the colour. with the lacquer it depends on the conditions (humidity dampness tempreture etc). if you do not dry it completely you will get micro blisters in the paint afterwards. good luck.

what ever you do, do not use steel wool!!!!!!!. buy some grey scotch pads.
