How can I fix my form on 200m hurdles?

I am in 7th grade, I think we are the only grade that has 200m hurdles. I am shocked that I have won the 200m hurdles at every single meet so far. Today I won by only .02 sec! The coach tells me I would have smoked them if I had better form, so I ask him at practice for help with form and he is always just working with the relay people. I need some advice on my form on 200m hurdles, NOT 110m or 100m or 55m. Some of my problem is I studder, how can I fix this? For 200m do you always leap off same leg? And also how do I not slow down when I land?! Any help?

  1. Every hurdle should feel the same, so yes, you do jump off the same foot every time. Every hurdle should feel like your last, not including your energy. If you're jumping straight up, you'll lose time when recovering from your time. The form is jumping off of one foot, and curving the other, rather than just bringing it up. Watch some national hurdlers on youtube.

Your hurdle time should be only 4 seconds slower than your 200m time, if you're good.

A good way to practice form is to just lift the leg you're not jumping off of, and curving it over the hurdle without actually jumping.

  2. Well good job on winning those races first of all. I'm in high school track and i run 300M Intermediate Hurdles the thing you want to do is jump the hurdle as low as you can and you should overstride your steps, which means take bigger strides between every hurdle. If you are landing awkwardly, then you are either jumping too high or your body is unbalanced. So GOOD LUCK!!! Also, tell your coach to watch you, tell him. Hey coach, can you please help me with hurdles and my form? He should help you out. if he doesn't.. then he's not a real coach!!!
