Question:

How can I fix my graphics bug in the Sims 2?

I start up the Sims 2, get to the neighborhood, then it freezes and the screen turns completely purple. The mouse is still doing the loading/turning into a pointer deal, and I have to Alt+Tab out. I end the program and then get a notification that my visual device drivers have stopped working but recovered or something to that effect.

I am running on Windows Vista, with a Quad Core Processor, 3 Gigs of RAM, and an ATI Radeon 2600 HD.

  1. you may not wanna hear this but i STRONGLY suggest you go to support.ea.com and ask a "the sims 2" fixer person. they can answer ur question better then most ple on yahoo.  the best part is that they answer quickly too! in 24 hours or less! i have asked them troublehoot problems about 6 times now and everytime they have helped me fix what was wrong. (it was differnt problems btw)  when u sign in, just use the same username and password  used when u registered your game. trust me. they can help u definetly

  2. According to EA, the only ATI Radeon cards that will work with Vista and Sims 2 are ATI Radeon 9600, 9700, X300 and X1300. Any other ATI Radeon cards are unsupported because they are not Vista capable. As a result, graphics card manufacturers are unlikely to support Vista driver updates for these cards. This would seem to tie in with the message you are getting about your drivers not working.

Hopefully you will be able to upgrade to one of the supported cards.

  3. You may need a different graphics card in order to play the game.  I don't see yours on the list at the link below.
