Question:

How can I fix the power window switch on a 1997 Ford Taurus station wagon?

The drivers side window has stopped working -- in the down position, naturally, right before it's supposed to rain. The bank of switches on the driver's door continue to work for all three of the other windows. There's no sound when I try to engage the "broken" switch.

1) How can I get the door panel (or at least the smaller panel that houses the switches) off without ending up with a door panel that won't stay on (which I already have on the other side)?

2) Any way to tell if the problem is the motor rather than the switch?

  1. Take the "Arm Rest" loose, Turn it over and with a small jumper wire. Jump from the Power Wire on the switch to the Power to the Winder Motor Wire, Works "Replace Switch", Doesn't Work or Motor Hums "Replace Motor". Would be really hard to "Tell You", Go to a Body Shop or get a Mechanic Friend to help you with it.

  2. The cover for the switch should come up if it is on the arm rest. there is a catch that locks it down. but breaks very easely. so I would take to a body shop are a good reliable mechanic. to test the window motor it can be done through the switch. for a quick fix I would get some claer plastic and some duct tape. the claerer the better. then get some goo gone to clean up the tape resadue after removing the tape. good luck.
