Question:

How can I fix the pump on my very old dishwasher? The water does not drain out at the end of the cycle.

I moved into this condo 3 years ago and it was built in the late 60s or very early 70s. The dishwasher worked fine when I moved in (I tested it before I bought the place) but eventually it got to where water remains at the bottom after every cycle (and the water stinks like you wouldn't believe). What could be causing this? I cannot afford a new dishwasher, and I would have to remodel this old-style kitchen and move the sink over to make room for a new one.

  1. Repair a 40-50 year old d/w the parts can not be found, and anything that deals with water the hardware will not come part. All d/w are 24 inches across standard size unless you have a portable.

  2. first try the simple things... take off the washing arm on the bottom and then remove the screen from the bottom pan of the washer.  look for some item clogging the drain line, and remove it... if this assembley looks good and is clean, you likely have a bad pump assembly and will need to order one and then install it...
