I used a mixture of mini and regular marshmallows (it's what I had on hand), and instead of being chewy, they are rock hard! Any way to fix it?

  1. Were the marshmallows old and not so soft to start with?

    That would do it.

  2. no probably not now they are together and made. I would say they are hard because you cooked the marshmallows too long though. Nothing much you can do for them though, sorry.

  3. try putting each one in the microwave for about 6 seconds (maybe 10 if your microwave isn't great) just before eating it... Then gobble it up before it gets hard again.

    I agree that you probably cooked the marshmallows too long- better luck next time.

  4. Put them in a sealed container (tupperware). Place a few slices of bread in the container. The Rice Krispies will absorb the moisture out of the bread. You can do this with any bakegoods...cookies, brownies, cake, bars...etc...Best Wishes!

  5. If they are hard and dry they are not Rice Krispy Treats.

    Not much of a chance of fixing what you have already made.

    You need butter (the real stuff) and marshmallows or marshmallow puff. Melt together and add the Rice Krispy Cereal and blend well. Form it in a pan and cool then cut in shapes or squares.

    Rice Krispie Marshmallow Treats

    This recipe comes from a Kellogg's Rice Krispies Box.

        * 1/4 cup butter or margarine (1/2 stick)

        * 6 - 10 ozs. regular marshmallows (about 40) or 4 cups miniature marshmallows

        * 6 cups Rice Krispies

    Melt butter in 3-quart saucepan. Add marshmallows and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until marshmallows are melted and mixture is syrupy. Remove from heat.

    Add Rice Krispies and stir until well coated.

    Press warm mixture evenly and firmly into buttered 13 X 9-inch pan. Cut into squares when cool.

    Yeild: 24 (2-inch)squares

    Variation: Choco-Scotch Bars - - Follow directions for making Marshmallow treats above except, when melted marshmallow mixture is removes from heat, stir in 1/4 cup peanut butter before adding Rice Krispies. After spreading Rice Krispies- marshmallow mixture in pan, melt together in a small heavy saucepan, over low heat, 1 cup (6-oz. pkg.) butterscotch morsels; stirring until well blended. Remove from heat: spread evenly over Rice Krispies-marshmallow mixture in pan. Cool until firm. Cut into bars.

    Yeild: 48 (2 X 1-inch) bars

  6.    you wont be able to fix it  but try this

    1. Melt 3 tablespoons of margarine in a large saucepan.

       2. Add marshmallows -- about 40 regualar sizes marshmallows (a 10 oz. bag) or 4 cups of mini marshmallows.

       3. Stir until marshmallows are completely melted.

       4. Remove from heat and add 6 cups of crispy rice cereal (such as Kellogg's Rice Krispies).

       5. Stir until cereal is coated.

       6. Lightly coat a 9"-x-13" pan with cooking spray.

       7. Press mixture into prepared pan, using a buttered spoon to compress.

       8. When cool, cut into squares.

    Tips:

       1. Best served within one day.

       2. You can melt the butter and marshmallows in the microwave by heating on HIGH for 2 - 3 minutes, stopping occasionally to stir.
