Hey I go to Tauranga Boys' College and I am a year nine student. I am in a new class called the inquiry learning class. My Mum said that it would be great and that it would be really good thing to get into. We have to be responsible for our own learning by doing projects revolved around one question. Lately I just don't really know what is going on and I can't focus in class. It is very frustrating and I haven't been getting much homework done either.

  1. First, try to be honest with yourself about the reason you aren't able to focus - this is important to address the root cause of the problem.  For example - is it stress over your grades?  Is it a girl?  Is it disinterest?  etc.

Try to set short term specific and realistic goals.  Your goal shouldn't be not to lose focus because that is vague and long term.  Instead, say to yourself that you will maintain 100% focus for the next hour.  If you want to daydream, do it after the hour is over.  So if a daydream thought enters your mind, you tell yourself "I can't think about that right now - I'll think about that in 50 more minutes."

Also, make sure you are taking care of yourself - eat well, rest, exercise - these all help you keep focus.  Good luck!

  2. Well you can bring a book if teacher stop teaching and you are finsh with your work

  3. get a good night sleep and make sure you are eating a good breakfast in the mornings, and when in class ask more questions, take notes, and get more involved in the class. I know sometimes you just can't focus on anything when you're hungry, tired, or just plain bored. Sleeping and eating good, along with getting involved with the class more is a great way to stay wide awake and interested.
