Question:

How can I force myself to write more? (I'm a lazy man)?

I really do love writing (fiction) and I have - what I think - are great ideas and talent! My problem is: I'm either really lazy or subconciously sabotaging myself (which is just an excuse to be lazy). What has helped me in the past is hanging out a book store or a library. The atmosphere helps...but what else can I do? Looking for answers other than "Just write man!".

  1. set up goals for yourself to meet, like a short story per week or something, with a reward system.

ps stop smoking dope, it kills motivation haha

  2. 1. Write a friend an email, like a narrative email letting them know what you have done lately.

    2. Keep a journal

    3. Go back to school and continue your education.  Get a degree in English/journalism etc...

  3. I suppose no one can tell you how to, it's up to you to figure out your methods, but if you find the library helps go there, or buy some books and put them on a shelf beside a table and sit at the table and see if that works....maybe you need the presence of books hehehe

  4. redbull haha i swear by the stuff

  5. Motivation ma nikkka find something to motivate yourself with

  6. You need to be inspired.  I will go months without doing anything creative and then I get inspired somehow and it just happens on its own.  What inspires you?  Do you have intellectual friends who "give you a buzz" whenever you spend time with them?  What other environments such as the book store and library make you feel good?  I also agree with Bighammer who suggested you start a blog.  Blogger.com might be good and so is myspace.  Good luck and drop me a line once you start writing so I can check it out!

  7. think of if you write more the better you books are going to be and how proud people will be of you

  8. Start a blog. You'll get feedback and hopefully a following. That should inspire you to keep posting.

  9. Hey, I have the same problem. I remember in grade 12 my teacher always used to be very strict  about my stories because they were written so well, she had to be tougher with me than everyone else in the class. She wanted me to become a writer! I have so many great ideas...

    So what helps?

    Motivation.

You can more more of this buy simply writing the best parts of your story first. Write out the parts that you find "fun" or a stress reliever. An example would be:

Say that you just went through a break up and you want to vent. Write about it. Say that you had an awesome dream you think would be a great story. Write it.

I remember once I stayed up writing a poem for my boyfriend (I really just wanted to go to sleep) but I wrote it for him and it turned out to be one of my best poems yet.

So, write for others. Write for people you care for, they can motivate you. I find that when you write for others you tend to try harder.

Also, you can make your writing time a very pleasant time. Sit down with a cup of tea and write away on a stormy night. Eventually you will probably get addicted to writing!

  10. Well im like this with running. Dont force yourself to write, just do it when you energetic. Like, around 1:00 on a brisk day where you feel you can wirte. It could be a slow process but it works
