I don't keep music or photos on my computer, and I don't have alot of programs, but my computer just seems really slow! I have 1GB of space free and 9GB on the hard drive... We have seven 'log in' names, will getting rid of these give more space? also use CCleaner every day, but theres still not enough space.

    gud luk

  4. try to defragment the hard drive

  5. it may not be lack of space thats slowing it down, maybe its just getting old.. it could be a number of things

  6. You can go to Disk Clean Up, and delete all un necessary files. Also delete all softwares that you dont use.

  7. If that computer came with a 10 Gb drive then it must be at least 9 or 10 years old. Which means you probably have a RAM of 64 or 128 Mb, and very low rated CPU. That's the reason it is so slow. It's really time to start thinking of getting a new one.

  9. u computer only has a 9gb harddrive  well if thats the case its an old computer i bet is got lil ram and prosser speed

  10. Easy fix?

Then, download AVG anti virus, ver 8.0; do a complete scan of your drive. Your computer has virus. Once it eliminates it, your computer will run smooth and bit faster. You have decent amount of memory (1Gb) - that should do for now - but increasing it will help. It is not that expensive.

Not so easy fix. ? Increase your hard disk capacity. It is not that expensive either. Just investing a small amount of money (under a $100) will give you better performance.

Looks like you are running XP sp 2. That's OK. It is not a bad op.sys; but try to go to the newer one, Vista.

  11. Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

Is your computer new or old..pehaps you need to get a bigger memory card...like i did on my computer...my chat on messenger goes a lot faster also...my e mail is j.lavallee@lycos.com

  14. GO to

    start>all programs>accessories>system tools>disk defragmenter

    and click on defragment

  15. Have you emptied your Recycle Bin?

Also check your Internet Cache and History for anything you may wish to save or bookmark, then clear that.

Do a search for really large files (say over 10MB) and see if any of these are really needed, or can they be deleted or archived to CD.  Things like photos and video take up a lot of space and are easy to archive.  While you say you don't have any, there might be some things that have wormed their way in without you knowing.

When you have a bit more space, then defrag the hard drive.

In the long term, consider getting more RAM - this means there is less likelihood of memory spilling over into the swap file on the hard drive.  If the only space for a large swap file (and it could be 512MB!) is scattered all over the hard drive, then it would take forever to keep swapping the memory back and forth.  For xp ideally you really need 1GB RAM, for Vista 2GB.  It will run on half that, but any less and you're into using the swap file regularly.

Finally, hard drives are much cheaper now.  If you have room, get a second drive and use that for as much as possible - even reinstall Windows there and start afresh, using your old drive just to archive what was there before.

  16. you only have a 10gb hard drive--maybe invest in a new HD--120 gb is about 20 quid these days

  17. If you don't use some of those profiles, "'login names'" then you should delete them.   Also, you should consider going under Tools/Internet Options, General Tab, in Internet Explorer and deleting your Temporary Internet Files.  If you have software installed that you never use, go to Control Panel/Add/Remove Programs and uninstall them.  When you're done with unistalling everything go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Sytem Tools and run Disk  Defragmentor and Disk Cleanup.  You should then have more space, and your system should run a little faster.
