How can I frost glass?

I am trying to do a project that requires me to frost some glass, I mean to say take a peice of glass, any glass at all. Could be a beer bottle or window glass. I want to frost it so its not transparent but frosted with a color, be it white or red or blue. Yet semi transparent so that light can come through. I dont think stained glass would give me the affect I am looking for. If you can just point me in the right direction I can figure out the rest. Thanks.

  1. sand blast it  air compressor has pressure settings try it from 50psi to 100 psi and find a happy medium I've tried it with a siphon sandblaster with smallest beads(sand)I could find  and they also make special paint for glass that don't wear off

  2. Hydrofluoric acid solution is the old standard method of etching glass.  You should be able to buy a kit at a craft or hobby store.

  3. Look at a craft store or hobby shop. They have a special product that works, but I don't know the name of it.

  4. there is a spray paint for frosting glass made by rustoleum I bought some at home depot inthe spray paint section to frost my bathroom window it works great for only $4

  5. There is a product on the market that I use when I want a 'frosted effect' on glass with stencils.  You can get this at any Michael's Craft Store or AC Moore. Works really well-good luck!

  6. I'm pretty sure there is a glass etching chemical that you can use for that, or you could find a place that uses sandblasting for that kind of thing.
