  1. the things you mentioned are delivered by windows updates

NOTE..the first thing you do after re-installing your OS is keep checking for updates over and over again

  2. PEOPLE   if he does not have the driver for the Ethernet controller, or the network controller, how do you expect him to log on to Window Update???????

IBM / Leveno laptops have a program that will automatically find and download your drivers once your get onto the internet.

First download the basic drivers by going to this link and entering your model number from the bottom of the laptop.

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...

You will want to burn them to a CD or put them on a thumb or zip drive so you can get them onto the laptop.

Once you have the driver, you will need to open the control panel for your laptop, and have it update the driver, using the disk or thumb drive files.   Start - Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device Manager

Look for items with a red X or an exclamation point next to them.   Find the one for your Ethernet controller and right click.  Select the update driver option.  When it asks if you have a disk, you say yes, and point it to the drive with the files.  Windows should find and load these drivers.   This should turn on the network port on the back of side of the machine.

Use a hardwire cable to plug into your router, and then log onto the internet.  Go to the second link and download the auto-updater.  This program will find and load all the other drivers, as well as update any drivers that have new versions.

    Auto-update file.

After you have the Leveno updates loaded, you will need to go to the Windows update site and download the updates for Xp.  If you do not have a legal copy of Xp, you can often solve this by purchasing an new PCI cover for your laptop, that has an Xp COA sticker on it, Or if your laptop model has the sticker on the Memory cover, purchase one of those.

Once you have the cover with the sticker, you can activate your copy of Xp using the COA.  This of course will only work if your model was sold with Xp on it, and you either do not have the COA sticker, or have one for Win98 or Win2000, istead of Xp.

  3. Try going to your computer manufacturers web site to download drivers or go to your routers website.

  4. try  www.windrivers.com  reputable website with tech guru's that can help you step by step

  5. Lenovo's website will have them.  They bought the laptop biz from IBM about 5 yrs. ago, and continued to make them with the IBM logo until about 2 yrs. ago.

  6. check out CNET.COM they have drivers for everything ,,,pretty much for free
