Question:

How can I get English TV in Germany, without using a satellite dish?

I live in Germany, but don't understand German TV. I want to have TV in English, but, the property in which I live, is privately owned. The owners say I cannot erect a satellite dish, which would enable me to receive TV in English, because I would be "Defacing" the property. Is there any other way to get what I am looking for?

I have already checked out cable TV, but they too, are all (except one) German programs. I would so much love to see some familiar old channels from Britain again. BBC etc.

Thanks.

  1. Is it a house or an apartment?  House is easy... dig a hole, bury a pole and mount the dish to the pole.

Apartment is a little harder but can still be done.  Check out a camping or RV (caravan) store for a mobile dish set-up.  You could install that on the balcony.

Either way... to run the wire into the house... they make a flat stretch of coax cable made specifically to go into a window or door edge without being crushed or kinked.

Both of these options will allow you to "install" a satellite dish, which will allow you to get Sky network or any other UK based system.

  2. Maybe a German VOIP video over IP provider can provide you with internet access to such TV channels if you have a high speed internet connection:

Get a friend to time shift some shows for you on DVD and use a  player set to region 2 to view them.

See if you can get this Slingbox to work in the UK and watch your programs via internet from your friends cable.  Pay part of your friends cable bill.  If they do not have this for the UK yet I wish they would get it.  It seems like an awesome product.
