Question:

How can I get HD output from a Entertainment PC?

I am considering getting an entertainment PC, so I can record and store tv, and use other media center functions. I am considering Alienware's Hangar 18. I researched a little bit on Cnet, and Dan Ackerman said , in a quick tip, that once you record or input HD into your PC, it will only output analog, or close to HD. I'm wondeing if this is true for all current pc's, even if you have a HD cable card.

Can anyone help me out?

  1. There are video cards that are capable of full HD 1080p output available for computers. But they are expensive at this point.

Also unless you have the T-W Fios network you will get your best signal with an OTA antenna, at least for local channels.

Any newer PC that is not a bottom of the line should be able to do HD video with no problems.

  2. Win-Tv makes an ATSC Qam tuner for PC/Mac. you can get a HDMI adapter card for your display
