How can I get Internet on my Compaq computer other than at my house without having a monthly payment?

ok i understand that you can buy a wireless router and get internet at your home but how can you get wireless internet anywhere else? i heard about the wireless cards that you can buy but i don't understand them!

A wireless router only makes your current internet service wireless - you still need to pay for monthly internet with Quest, Comcast, etc.

A wireless internet card for a laptop acts sort of like a cell phone that only your computer can use - there is a monthly fee, but you can hook up to wireless internet anywhere you can get cell service.

In any case, there isn't a way to get on-line without paying a monthly bill. Routers and WiFi cards only allow you to send/recieve internet signals - you still need to supply the internet service.

Verizon has a wireless internet card that's about $100 to buy and around $35-40 a month. Then you can get internet anywhere you get cell service.

Just as Chris said. You can buy a wireless router, but the router has to connect to something. You cannot purchase a wireless router and expect for it to see any connections at all, unless you do have a service provider. You can of course use your neighbors wireless connection, IF they have unsecure networks, however, it is very much illegal and your neighbors may not like you anymore.

Wireless cards allow you to connect wirelessly. However, they need a connection to connect to as well. You would need to eventually get yourself an Internet Service provider and pay monthly, or get a laptop with wireless capabilities and find an internet cafe to hang out at!

with an ordinary wireless card you can receive a connection from any wireless router within distance .. mine detects neighbors connections both next door and across the street and i can get a connection and do anything .. theres lots of places u can get free internet, libraries even a lot of restaurants now
