Question:

How can I get a 'sound system' on the beach?

I don't have enough money to hire a DJ or rent a bunch of expensive equipment.

I had thought to have my MOH download all the music I want on her computer and then we would play it using speakers. We can power the computer using a battery pack, like a Motomaster pack.

Does that sound like it might work, or am I destined to have a quiet wedding.

I also have no idea how to go about getting a microphone, can that be run through a laptop as well?

HELP!!!!

I'm getting married on August 23rd, 2008.

  1. Computer speakers, much less anything battery powered, just isn't going to be powerful enough for anyone standing more than 3 feet away from them - much less for an outdoor setting.

At the very least you will need to rent an outdoor audio setup with loudspeakers.  You can easily connect your friend's laptop to that.

You'll need the audio setup anyways, as you'll probably want to have the ceremony itself recorded, not to mention a microphone for the reception so the emcee can announce things, give the toast, etc.

  2. Yes, there is portable sound systems out there that you can rent or buy.  Either way it will cost money.

You cannot connect a microphone to a laptop and get sound out for an audience.

Are you sure there is not a power outlet somewhere nearby?

If it is a small wedding you can get away without a microphone.  If it is more than 50 people or so, it will be hard to hear the vows etc.

E-mail me if you need more help.
