Question:

How can I get a 42"+ wide boat into the back of my 41" wide Pickup?

I'm looking to buy a Pontoon Jon Boat (those ABS Plastic ones) but my pickup bed is only 41" wide (it's a step side so wheel wells do not exist). Most of the boats I've been looking at are 42"+ wide so they most likely will not fit flat down. I do not want to buy a trailer as not many ponds have parking lots around here.

Does anyone know if I could put it in crooked (propped up on the side of the truck a little) and still secure it safely?

I have a few people offering to sell me boats and this is the only issue that is bothering me, thanks for any and all help

    ya...stuff it in sideways...

    or ya...make a cradle if you're industrious

or...even just a few 2X4s across yer truck box.

  5. go with 45 Cal

  6. You need a pipe stretcher (similar to a board stretcher). Go to the hardware store and tell them that; they'll know what you're talking about.

  7. Most boats have sides that slope out slightly from the bottom to the top, so if your boat is 42 inches wide at the top, it's something less than that at the bottom.  If your pickup bed is 41 inches between side rails, your boat should drop right in, but it may not rest on the floor of the truck.  If this is a concern, then build up the floor of your truck with a sheet of plywood on top of a 2x4 framework.  You can even use the space under the platform to store life jackets, oars, fishing tackle, etc.

  9. Just put wooden blocks under the keel or base. Then lash it down.
