  1. Take the initiative to memorizes the recipes for the most popular 40-50 drinks. If you are currently working in a restaurant, ask the bartenders if you can help set up/breakdown the bar to become familiar with the layout of the bar and the tools of the trade. When it isn't busy, ask the bartender to quiz you on drink ingredients when you come to the service bar to pick up your drinks. Have the bartender save an empty bottle or two, fill with water and put on pour spouts. That way you can get accustomed to handling the bottles and pratice counts for the different pours. Show them that you are really interested in doing the job, but don't make a nuisance of yourself.

  2. Well, ask yourself what is in it for them? If you have the financial means to survive for a short time (4-6 weeks) maybe you can make a deal with them. Go in as an intern, they will get free services and you will learn to bartender.

Try restaurants or venues that don't have to large a crowd. Maybe go in as a server. There are also thousand of mixology book on the market.

  3. Being attractive is always a plus. If you have no experience, you would have to start as a bar back. If you start as a waitress you have a better chance of getting bar back shifts than if you just walk in and ask for one. As far as training goes, actual experience is really the only training. I've known way too many bartenders and I don't know any who got their jobs by going to a bartending school.

Edit: Bar shifts are in demand because bar customers can be less demanding and the tips can be better, both direct and from tip outs. It's easier to get started at a casual bar with fewer waitresses, because you have less competition and turnover can quickly get you seniority.

  4. Tell them you would like to be a bar back, And if your that attractive drop me a note....
