Question:

How can I get a book printed?

My husband wrote a book when he was in college for his thesis. It means a lot to him and I would like to print it and have it made into a book. I DON'T want to publish it. I just want to have it made into a book. A professional looking book. Anyone have any advice on how I can go about doing that. I've heard of Lulu.com. Is that a good website for it? How much does it cost and what's the turnaround time?

  1. Lulu.com is great and i had my own thesis hardbound with a dustjacket there, it cost around £17 which i think is about $30.

Once you have uploaded your text and images and decided on the cover etc you can place an order instantly, mine took a couple of weeks to be made and sent, and the quality was great.

Just triple check everything as you are responsible for how the book looks in print, any mistakes will be at your own expense.

Alternatively you can ask at a local print shop or stationers, often they know people who will handbind you a single or short run of copies, but these will be much more expensive, i was quoted £65 locally for a single issue, (although this got cheaper the more i ordered) which is why i went to lulu.com in the first place :-)

  2. Wondermark had two books printed (he's the online comic) and went with EC Printing and was extremely happy with them. They don't have a minimum order,so you can contact them and see what the price quote would be. They do hardcover and tradebacks.

Here's the Wondermark page that they were mentioned on (about a quarter of the way down).
